The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce that the Backstreet Boys will be honored with a star on the world-famous Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 22, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. “Fans from around the world have been waiting for this big day since the Backstreet Boys’ selection was announced in 2012.” stated Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies. “We expect a big crowd of enthusiastic fans right here at 7072 Hollywood Boulevard! The star will be next to the star of another popular boy band Boyz II Men.”
Emcee Leron Gubler, President & CEO of the Hollywood Chamber or Commerce and guest speaker Max Martin will help the Backstreet Boys unveil the 2,495th Star in the Category of Recording at 7072 Hollywood Boulevard near the Live Nation Building.
“Backstreet Boys fans who can’t make it to the star ceremony can watch their favorite band LIVE on www.walkoffame.com!” said Martinez.
Making history remains second nature for Backstreet Boys. The Grammy Award-nominated, multi-platinum pop-powerhouse has solidified itself as the biggest and best-selling boy band in history with sales exceeding 130 million albums worldwide. Meanwhile, they're also one of the only music artists to release seven consecutive albums in the top 10 of the Billboard Top 200. Two decades into their career, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell, Howie Dorough, Kevin Richardson and Nick Carter are as strong as ever, and they're not stopping!
They initially formed in 1993 and began turning heads with their self-titled first album in 1996. Driven by the single "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)," Backstreet Boys instantly became pop stars. Superstar status soon followed with the release of their 1997 effort Backstreet's Back and a RIAA diamond certification for their debut—placing them in an elite club with Michael Jackson, The Beatles, and Billy Joel. Closing out the century with a bang, Millennium set the record for first-week sales in the United States at the time, moving 1.1 million units in merely seven days.
At the 1999 Billboard Music Awards, the band won the highest honors of "Artist of the Year," "Album Artist of the Year," "Album Artist Duo/Group of the Year" and "Album of the Year" for Millennium. Backstreet Boys upped the ante higher for 2000. They kicked off the year gracing the cover of Rolling Stone Magazine, while Black & Blue topped their previous record and sold more than 1.6 million copies during release week. One month later, it was certified eight-times platinum. The subsequent tour grossed revenue of more than $100 million. Backstreet Boys released in 2005 Never Gone which also went platinum, thus continuing their bona fide hot streak and once again proving their staying power. In the meantime, they enjoyed high-profile collaborations with everyone from Elton John to Sting.
Their hits include such songs as Quit Playing Games (with my heart), I Want it That Way, Everybody (Backstreet’s Back), As Long As You Love Me and many more. Kevin Richardson left the band in 2006 to pursue acting. During this time Backstreet Boys continued as a quartet and released two albums, Unbreakable and This Is Us. Both albums debuted Top 10 on the Billboard 200 charts and have since become fan favorites.
In 2010, Backstreet Boys took to the high seas for the inaugural Backstreet Boys Cruise. The S.S. Backstreet Boys has become an annual adventure that strengthens their bond with fans. One of pop's biggest moments occurred when Backstreet Boys historically merged with New Kids on the Block forming 2011's supergroup NKOTBSB and selling out arenas full of screaming fans worldwide.
This year marks 20 years of Backstreet Boys! With Kevin Richardson returning to the band, the Backstreet Boys will release new music and a new tour with the original five member lineup. The band has put together a 20th Anniversary Fan Celebration that will take place at the Fonda Theatre on April 20th – just a day before the group is honored their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. ok i cant spell at all... VIP weren't* let in and ground ctrl DIDNT* plan around how many VIPS they sold
ok seriously the VIP event Thursday was such a great time! Especially when nick came in the crowd and was over top of me and everyone. he M&G photo was a complete diaster from everyone yelling,screaming and rushing us because they were running out of time (because they did plan or organize around all the VIPS they decided to sell,guess they shouldnt think so much about money and think about the fans) anyways hah. As soon as I saw aj he said "HEY BEAUTIFUL,my fellow team mate" So he remembered that we played horse shoes together at the BBQ and he also tried asking how i got sick because i seriously had hardly a voice from being sick but however i didnt get to answer much because i was pushed along, i only got to shake AJ and Nicks hands that I remember so i didnt even get to welcome Kevin back. I got my spot by Brian this time took a pic after ground ctrl was done yelling someone more,because my aunt got screwed. Then Brian to said "We met me before didnt we?" and I said Yes and He said he remembered then I was pushed out the door. The GMA was the coolest experience, I know some VIP people were pissed because we were let in first because we didnt know there were like 400 contest winners who went in first,but honestly I didnt care,I was just happy to be there and experiencing everything with these boys and all their fans! Cant wait for the future!
All I can say it was well worth sleeping out in central park all night! There was a group of 7 of us and we had a blast making friends with fans around us and I would do it all over again!!! We were lucky enought to be in the front row for the concert and it is something I will never ever forget! It was truly an experience of a lifetime!! I dont think anything could ever top this!! The guys were so friendly and went out of there way to try and reach every single fan in the audience! thank you so much for making us all feel so special! You are truly a unique and wonderful group of young men and it shows that you truly care for one another! keep making that beautiful music and we will all be with you to support you every step of the way!! ktbspa sincerely Barb from Ct! :)
